Engineering Computing Center Usage Agreement and Policies

Improper conduct regarding the use of computers at the Engineering Computing Center falls into three categories: (1) academic dishonesty, (2) disruption and destruction of computer facilities, and (3) violation of licenses and copyright agreements, UNR policy, and State or Federal laws.

Definitions for each category are defined in the University of Nevada Computing and Network Use Agreement which can be found at http://www.unr.edu/policy/agree.html.

Use Agreement: In addition to agreeing to abide by the Standards of Conduct for the Use of UNR Computing and Network Resources found at http://www.scs.nevada.edu/about/policy061899.html, I agree to the following statements:

1. I understand that networked computing is a cooperative effort and will make every attempt to be prudent and considerate in my use of Engineering Computing Center (ECC) computers and network resources.

2. I will not willfully destroy, damage, tamper, alter, steal, misappropriate or use without permission any system, program or file of the ECC.

3. So that others may not use my account, I agree to use my account for my own work and to keep my password confidential. I agree to report the use of my account by others to the ECC Manager.

4. I understand that while the ECC makes every attempt to preserve the integrity of my data and files stored on the system, if a conflict arises between keeping the system operational and maintaining the integrity of my data, keeping the system operational will take precedence. The ECC will not be held responsible for any loss of data.

5. I agree to indemnify and hold harmless the College of Engineering, the ECC, its employees, and agents from any claim, demand, liability, cause of action, suit judgment or expense (including attorneys' fees), arising out of my breach of this agreement.

6. I understand that I do not own my computing account, but do have exclusive access to the account under normal circumstances. The ECC owns the account and gives me the privilege of using it. The ECC reserves the right to access the account if an incident occurs that affects service or threatens the protection of the rights or property of the ECC. This access is solely for service or negating a threat.

7. I understand and agree that each time I access the ECC computing network that I am bound by the terms of the agreement along with any changes or additions to this agreement and the terms of all UNR policies that are in effect at the time I access the system.

8. I understand that violations of this agreement may result in the revoking of all my computer and network access privileges.

Policies: Use of the ECC obligates me to observe the following policies:

1. I will refrain from introducing items into the lab which may damage equipment such as food or drink.

2. I understand that to ask for any changes to my account requires that I produce a valid UNR student ID.

3. I agree to relinquish computing resources of the ECC should ECC or UNR staff require me to do so.

4. I agree to keep my account protected by creating a secure password.

I agree and acknowledge that any infractions will result in disciplinary action from the ECC, the College of Engineering, UNR and/or appropriate local, state and federal agencies. Nevada Revised Statutes 205.473-205.491 (Unlawful Acts Regarding Computers) and applicable statutes in the Appendices are fully enforceable. By using my account I agree to all of the above sections.
